History

During the early settlement in Marienbad in 1838, several houses were developed on the then vacant building plots situated on the current Main Street. Among them was the Steinberg Hotel. After 1869 it was renamed New York and underwent a minor building modification. Around 1903, following a project of a Viennese architect Arnold Heynemann, the owner of the house, Emil Baruch, transformed the building into a modern exquisite palace which surpassed all the surrounding hotels in terms of extraordinary façade and high dominant tower. No sooner than 1950 did the new owner, the Revolutionary Trade Union Movement organisation, decide to rename it to POLONIA Hotel. During a reconstruction completed in 1971, the Polonia Hotel was connected to the nearby houses London and Hamburg.
